The monastery is most famous for enshrining the flesh body of Palden Lhamo. It is said that she passed away a thousand years ago at the age of twelve. After her death, her body naturally shrank to only one cubit high, in the sitting posture of Tara, with one eye even slightly open, as if half asleep and half awake. Legend has it that she is the true incarnation of Green Tara manifesting as Palden Lhamo, and was later enshrined in this temple.
