Welcome to Suzhou, known as the "Venice of the East" and praised as "Paradise on Earth," where you can experience up close the charm of classical Chinese gardens and thousand-year-old water alleys.
First, you will briefly visit China's first garden-themed museum, the [Suzhou Garden Museum], where you can gain an in-depth understanding of the history and culture of classical Chinese gardens, appreciate the essence of Suzhou gardens, and fully experience the gardening art of Suzhou gardens that "creates a universe within a foot."
After the visit, continue to the [Humble Administrator's Garden], known as the "Mother of Chinese Gardens." This is the largest and most famous classical Jiangnan landscape garden in Suzhou, a precious heritage of Chinese garden art, and one of the famous World Cultural Heritage sites, enjoying the reputation of "the model of all gardens under heaven." The Humble Administrator's Garden was first built in the fourth year of the Zhengde reign of the Ming Dynasty (1509 AD) by Wang Xianchen, a censor who retired to Suzhou after being frustrated in officialdom, and took 16 years to complete. It is renowned for its exquisite layout, picturesque scenery, and beautifully unique architecture and carvings. It is mainly divided into three parts: the east, the middle, and the west. The east is dominated by flat hills, distant mountains, pine forests, lawns, bamboo groves, and winding waters, with beautiful scenery; the middle is the essence of the Humble Administrator's Garden, dominated by water, with broad ponds and lush trees, presenting natural scenery; and the west has a pond shaped like a carpenter's square, with terraces and pavilions standing opposite each other, undulating corridors, water reflections, and very ornate and exquisite decorations, offering a unique charm. Strolling through it feels like traveling back to the Jiangnan of the Ming and Qing dynasties, with a scene at every step, and every brick, tile, plant, and tree exuding refinement and elegance. In addition, the Orchid Snow Hall, named after Li Bai's poem "Standing alone between heaven and earth, the clear breeze scatters orchid snow," the Hall of Distant Fragrance, named after Zhou Dunyi's "On the Love of the Lotus" with the line "Its fragrance spreads far and becomes more pure, standing tall and clean," and the Mountain-in-View Tower, named after Tao Yuanming's "Picking chrysanthemums by the eastern fence, leisurely gazing at the southern mountains," are among the must-see attractions in the Humble Administrator's Garden, worthy of careful appreciation.

These rockeries are piled with Taihu stones, in myriad forms, like a group of lifelike stone lions playing among the mountains and forests, hence the name. The Lion Grove Garden was first built in the second year of the Zhizheng reign of the Yuan Dynasty (1342), older than the Humble Administrator's Garden. It was built by the disciples of Zen Master Tianru for him, mainly featuring rockery and stone stacking. Its rockeries are winding and complex, the most intricate and complex among classical Chinese gardens. In addition, there are several inscriptions and plaques by Emperor Qianlong in the garden.
